Subway Art by Martha Cooper and Henry Chalfant.
For my research today. I read a book "Subway Art by Martha Cooper and Henry Chalfant." The book documents early history of the New York City Graffiti movement in the 1980's. The images in the book consist of vibrant colorful graffiti art and images of the artists, which were photographed using a film camera. I find this book truly inspiring because I love the bold colors and the use of film photography because it's becoming less popular. I think it's amazing how the graffiti artists clashed different colors together to create such visual excitement. I never imagined certain colors would go together that well. The layout of the book had huge pages that gave you an immersive experience it's like when you go watch a movie in the theatre. Also having the dark pages helped bring out the color in the art. I chose this book for this blog because I remember it being a little movement in my primary school where students would create a graffiti stretch in their notebook then transfer it to different corners on the school campus sometimes the classroom desks or chalkboard etc. So, reading this book brought back so many memories of my childhood. We used to call it the "art with no name" because the moment your done transferring it. It's longer yours. I want to create an immersive experience with my art too using different bold colors. So, this was a help resource because it helped me realize that I should be open to explore different possibilities with color.
I love your use of color and imagery in your Blogger post! I am not sure what your capstone project is on, but I can tell just from this post that it has something to do with vibrancy, film style, art, and history. There are so many books/artifacts to look into!
